Public transport strike hits Vanuatu capital area

PUBLIC transport operators on Efate island have gone on strike.

The Land Transport Association says the action is to protest against the bad condition of the roads in Port Vila and Efate.

The Association’s President, Donald Massing, says it wants an explanation from the government of how it spends the three million US dollar it collects in road taxes each year.

He says the money should enable the government to repair the roads.

The strike forced some students to walk to school while those living far away stayed home.
